Terms & Conditions

General Terms and Conditions

1. Scope of Application
Bike rental services are provided by Bike Arena Zermatt GmbH (“BAZ”), based in Zermatt, which owns the rental bikes. These General Terms and Conditions (GTC) form an integral part of the rental agreement. By signing the contract, the renter confirms that they have read, understood, and unconditionally accepted these terms. These GTC apply to all bicycles, whether electric or non-electric.

2. Contractual Relationship
The contract is concluded between BAZ and the customer.

3. Bike Pickup
The renter receives the bike in a safe and clean condition. Any complaints must be reported to the provider upon handover. The renter must present an official identification document (ID card, passport, driver’s license).

4. Bike Return
The bike and all provided accessories (helmet, backpack, battery, protectors, GPS, etc.) must be returned in good condition before the rental period expires. Late returns will be charged accordingly. Loss or damage will be invoiced to the renter. Unless otherwise agreed, rental equipment must be returned during opening hours. If this is not possible, the renter must inform the shop immediately, and additional charges may apply.

5. Extension of Rental Period
Rental extensions are only possible with prior approval from BAZ. The provider reserves the right to refuse an extension. Any additional costs must be settled upon return.

6. Minimum Age Requirements
Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Unaccompanied minors require written consent from a parent or guardian. The legal minimum age for riding an e-bike (max. 25 km/h) is 16 years (or 14 years with a moped license).

7. Services and Prices
The applicable prices are those published on the BAZ website at the time of rental. Printing errors excepted. Discounts granted on-site are not cumulative.

8. Cancellation & Early Termination

Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the rental start.

Cancellations by 12:00 PM the day before rental incur a 30% fee.

Cancellations after 12:00 PM the day before rental incur an 80% fee.

No refunds for early rental termination.

9. Liability and Insurance
9.1 Liability Insurance
Insurance is the responsibility of the renter, who confirms possession of liability coverage sufficient to cover the risks associated with riding the bicycle or e-bike. The liability includes costs such as expert fees, depreciation, or rental losses.

9.2 Mechanical Defects
If a defect occurs during the rental period, the renter can exchange the bike at BAZ for an equivalent model, subject to availability.

9.3 Damage, Theft, and Loss
The renter is responsible for reporting any damage or loss. They are liable for any damage caused by accidents, vandalism, weather, improper transport, or misuse. Minor damages will be charged based on BAZ’s workshop pricing. In case of theft or loss, the renter is liable for the replacement value. The bike must always be securely locked. If the renter hands over the bike to a third party, they remain liable for all damages and consequences.

9.4 Accidents
All accidents or crashes causing damage must be reported to BAZ immediately. If third parties are involved or personal injury occurs, the police must be notified, and an accident report must be submitted to BAZ.

10. Use & Restrictions
The renter must comply with traffic regulations and use the bike properly. Any misuse, such as carrying passengers or jumping obstacles that could damage the bike, is prohibited. Helmets are mandatory for e-bikes. BAZ assumes no liability in this regard.

11. Products, Services & Prices
Product images in advertisements, brochures, or online are illustrative and non-binding. Prices include VAT but exclude additional costs such as recycling fees or delivery. BAZ reserves the right to change prices at any time. In case of duplicate sales or bookings, BAZ will decide which customer receives the item, and the other will be refunded.

12. Applicable Law & Jurisdiction
BAZ aims to resolve disputes amicably. If no agreement is reached, legal action will be taken. This contract is governed by Swiss law, with exclusive jurisdiction in Zermatt (VS).
